While it’s entirely possible that our sweet teeth are out of control, we hold firm to the idea that the highlight of every reception is dessert. Not much beats the cake-cutting ceremony, the speculation on whether or not the groom will get a face full of buttercream, and the much-awaited distribution of that soft and fluffy wedding cake. Whether you’re a firm believer in the traditional three-tiered tower or a proponent of cupcakes, cheesecakes or pie, we’ve got a list of the best shops in St. Louis to call when you want to make your special day just that much sweeter.
La Bonne Bouchee
A charming French patisserie and café located in the Creve Coeur on the western edge of St. Louis, La Bonne Bouchée prides itself on handcrafted pastries with European flair. The selection of cake flavors and fillings is tantalizing.
Encore Baking Company
Just minutes from downtown St. Louis, Encore Baking Company has been baking, assembling, and decorating wedding cakes since 1989. The bakery can match their icing colors to nearly any color with careful custom blending, and specializes in handcrafted edible sugar flowers. Available flavors are basic but carefully perfected, and the shop is open to discussing custom options.
Jilly’s Cupcake Bar
Jilly’s Cupcake Bar serves a full menu of breakfast, brunch, and lunch items, but that doesn’t keep this bakery from what it truly loves: lots and lots of cupcakes. Creative and fully customizable, Jilly’s works with brides to put together a dessert that fits the aesthetic and character of the wedding day, taking into consideration the couple’s favorite flavors, the type of meal served, and the day’s color palette. We think the flexibility is great – although we’d be fully content with a box of the shop’s SOBE Wine Fest cupcake, a chocolate-cabernet cake with zinfandel chocolate ganache.
