Savvy Gift Ideas for Your Groomsmen

Savvy Gift Ideas for Your Groomsmen

Forget the flasks, the cigar cutters and all the other cliche items that your groomsmen will never end up using. Instead, think outside the box to gift your guys something that is both thoughtful and practical.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of gift ideas for your groomsmen? It is flasks? Is it really nice flasks with monogramming? A flask may feel like a gift that’s a little bit overdone, but it still stands among a handful of gifts that seem to be pretty standard — along with suspenders, cufflinks and neckties.

It can be difficult to think up a clever gift idea for the men that supported your wedding and perhaps even flew in to attend. But, these men have invested a considerable amount of money to be there for you, not to mention taken time off from work and helped make your wedding photos look awesome. In return, it’s customary to gift them something as a token of your appreciation and as a memento for the wedding.

Finding the right gift can be tricky and it’s no doubt that admid the hustle of bustle of much more important wedding planning tasks, the project of finding a toughtful gift for your groomsmen often comes down to a last minute endeavor — which in turn leads to those more commonly-seen gift ideas. The real problem is that many of these gifts may already be found in your groomsmens’ homes! For instance, I have three flasks somewhere in my kitchen cabinets and I never use them. They weren’t even gifted to me for my groomsmen services. The point is, your groomsmen deserve something better.

So, how can you go about choosing that new and improved gift?

Here’s a little guidance on cost: If the majority of your guys flew in from afar and spent a considerable amount of their own money to attend your wedding, and you can afford it, around $100 is appropriate. This could be a real nice double sided razor. Or, if you want to spend a little less, maybe a great toiletry kit.

If you’re struggling to come up with ideas, think about the types of things that you use on a daily basis. They don’t need to be things you find in your bathroom, either. Now that you have that item in mind, think about its luxury equivalent. These are the types of things that you probably wouldn’t purchase on your own, which makes them a perfect gift idea. And the fact that they’re a practical item is just the cherry on top.

While we’re on the topic of groomsmen, we better address the best man too. It’s your call if your best man deserves something a little above and beyond what your groomsmen are gifted. If that’s the case, you could wrap up a nice weekender bag or even a watch. Odds are that he was more involved in the planning of the wedding than any of the other guys and put much more sweat equity into the whole endeavor.

The big takeaway here on the topic of gifting is that going the extra mile and finding something that’s truly thoughtful and special is a savvy move. Your groomsmen will surely appreciate something practical and thoughtfully choosen over something they probably have in their closets back home!
