The Ultimate Registry Checklist
For better or worse, the classic registry list may no longer do. Since many couples have decided to get married later, there’s a good chance are they already own many of the gifts that make it onto these standard lists. That’s why we’ve put together a modern registry checklist, filled with the best of the old and the most exciting of the new. Perfect for the couple just getting their footing, it also works for the duo who already has it all. Consider your space.
A stand mixer is a coveted modern wedding gift—but it will only work in your home if you have a place to store it. Make sure that you actually have room for everything your registry (or have a plan for storage) before finalizing your list. There’s nothing more overwhelming than coming home from the honeymoon to an apartment full of electronics, linens, and kitchen items when you’re working with minimal closet space.
Assess what you have before determining what you need.
Avoid waste or excess by cross-referencing the checklist with your own home’s stock. Skip any repeats (or skip to Tip 3, if you want to replace those repeats!) to ensure that you’re not overfilling your home—or asking your guests to spend money—with items you forgot you had.
Donate or toss what you want to replace.
Of course, if you’re looking to upgrade your blender or replace your bathroom linens, there’s a way to make it happen without cramping your space. As you go through the checklist, make note of the items you and your spouse-to-be own and would like to replace and then be sure to toss or donate the original. After all, freeing up space before the new stuff arrives will save you time and effort in the long run.
