Wedding Planning

Bob and Rochelle’s Sacramento, CA Wedding by Penny Sylvia Photography

Bob and Rochelle’s wedding was held at a local vineyard on the Sacramento River.

Bob and Rochelle’s wedding was held at a local vineyard on the Sacramento River. From the bride’s own version of the Pink Ladies (those Oxford shirts are fantastic) to the men’s dark suits with Chuck Taylors, this wedding is very fun.  You would never know this wedding was planned in only a few months. Thank you to Penny Sylvia for sharing this afternoon with us!

How did you find your wedding details?

Since we had only 4 1/2 months to plan our wedding we did not have much time to do many DIY crafts. We still wanted the look of a rustic wedding so we got many great ideas from Pinterest and Etsy. Through Pinterest pictures we were able to go straight to the vendors we were using and show them in detail what we were looking for.  Etsy helped us add our personal touches to things that we wanted done a certain way. We used Etsy for a lot of great things such as our invitations, programs, wedding cake topper, Mr. and Mrs. signs, etc.  We did however make wine cork place tags (which does take some time so we suggest not trying to do that last minute)!

Did your wedding location hold a specific significance to you?

Yes.  Our reception was at Scribner Bend Vineyards which is located 12 minutes south of the capital on the Sacramento River.  This location was significant to us in so many ways.  The biggest that stands out would have to be the fact that we got engaged at a winery on a weekend getaway trip to Sonoma wine country.  The setting was perfect because it was in the country, very relaxed and beautiful.

What was the most meaningful part of your day?

We were so ready to stand up at the altar and say our vows to one another that we would have to say our wedding ceremony. We had a traditional Catholic wedding and were so grateful to have our family and friends to come together and join us celebrate such a special moment of our lives.

Did anything funny or out of the ordinary happen?

Everything had gone so smoothly throughout our planning process until the week before. We found out that our limo service had recently gone out of business without a phone call to us, a small diamond had fallen out of Rochelle’s ring while she was getting it cleaned, and it got a little chilly the last 2 days before so we had to move the dance floor inside the tent and get a few extra heaters. To top it off, that morning Bob received a phone call from the church secretary that our priest had accidentally double booked himself with a quinceanera at the same time as our ceremony.  With a few hours left to start time Bob was able to get a hold of our priest and luckily he was able to find another priest to stand in for him for the quinceanera.  Luckily the bride did not know about this until the next morning.

The day was filled with so many laughs it’s hard to think of one particular thing that stood out as super funny.  We did send Bob’s grandmother, Jodi Millard, back to the Citizen Hotel downtown with a couple of our friends that happened to be leaving early, we found out later they had left because our friend actually thought she might be having her baby.  No detours for Grandma though, oh and false alarm on the baby!

Tell us details of the events surrounding the wedding.

Bob is from Wisconsin so we had family and friends flying in during the week leading up until the big day.  It was fun, exciting, and chaos all wrapped into one!  We had a rehearsal dinner at House Kitchen & Bar on Capital the night before the wedding and then cocktails at The Grange as most of our out of town guests were staying at The Citizen downtown.  We arranged for limos to shuttle our guests staying at the Citizen to the church, reception and back to the hotel at the end of the night.  The day after, we continued to celebrate while we watched the 49ers game at Firestone in Midtown where we said our goodbyes to family and friends.

How did you know your partner was ‘the one’?

We met at Rochelle’s sister’s wedding.   Her sister happened to be marrying Bob’s cousin.  Rochelle was the maid of honor and Bob was the best man.  We were like two peas in a pod and knew we were right for each other right from the start! We love to laugh and smile and seem to never stop doing both!  Every day is something new and there is no telling what is going to come out of our mouths next, but we just continue stay positive and always laugh and love.

Any advice you’d give new brides who are just getting started?

Focus on what weddings are really about!! You are marrying the person you are going to spend the rest of your life with. Don’t get wrapped up in the small stuff that ultimately doesn’t matter.
