What was your vision for your wedding day?
My vision for our wedding was a rustic, country theme. My main goal for the wedding was for guests to really feel like the wedding came from the heart. I wanted guests to see décor and special parts of the wedding and think, Oh my gosh, that’s the cutest thing I have ever seen! I didn’t have a specific color scheme, but the wedding was made up of champagnes, ivory, laces, and a lot of wood! More than anything I wanted everyone to feel the love that Jason and I share, and I tried to bring that out through the details of our wedding! Everything in our wedding was made possible by our amazing wedding planner, Katie Webb, from Intertwined Events.
Wood Signs- As soon as I saw pictures in a magazine of the wood signs that you stick in the ground, I knew I had to have them! We did four and they stated: Jason and Liberty, 6.16.12, Reception, and In-N-Out Truck. We ordered them off Etsy. I also ordered the ring bearer boxes, flower girl baskets, and guest book off Etsy and they all followed the rustic theme.
Cakes- I would flip through bridal magazines to get ideas for our wedding. When I came across a picture of round cakes on top of tree stumps, I knew I was not going to have a traditional cake for our wedding. We ordered 8 traditional round cakes for Susie Cakes in Newport Beach (2 red velvet, 2 carrot cake, 2 vanilla, and 2 chocolate w/ peanut butter filling). The guests loved having the choices and the cakes looked awesome on the tree stumps that my uncle got at a lumber yard for $3 per stump!!
The lighting- I found a picture of a backyard wedding that had old fashioned lights strung across the yard. When I researched renting these lights, I discovered it is extremely pricey. My dad promised me that we would have the lights because they were very important to me. The week of the wedding, my dad’s friend let him borrow the equipment and my dad, fiancé, and uncle spent a day putting the poles in the ground and hanging the lights from the roof. They made a huge difference in the wedding because the lights brought a sense of romance once the sun went down!
Alcohol- My husband was the decision maker with all of the alcohol choices. He chose 4 of his favorite beers to be served: Alaskan Amber, Great White, Purple Haze, and Bud Light. He also chose 2 specialty drinks: Lynchburg Lemonade and Apple Martinis. The lemonade was very country and refreshing in the sun.
Rentals- We rented all of the rustic furniture from Vintage FOUND Rentals. The farm tables, chalkboards, and easels were from FOUND. The other tables and chairs were from Create-a-Party and we tried to choose the most country looking chairs, we did not want to have the traditional wedding chairs!
Flowers- Jenny B. Floral Designs did the flowers for the wedding. I had a vision of tall tree branches on the tables. She also had these awesome Burch tree vases for the floral center pieces! She did an absolutely stunning job!
Rocks- I got the idea of table seating from a picture online. The picture had stones with the guest’s name on one side and the table number on the other. I thought this looked so awesome and it was different from the usual table seating name tags. Guests were also able to keep their rocks if they wanted!
Sweetheart Table- My cousin (bridesmaid) created our sweetheart table using decorations from her house and pictures of Jason and me!
Pictures- I wanted to have a few big pictures of Jason and me at the reception for guests to look at. Instead of paying the high price of canvases, Fullerton Photographics had 20×30 posters made for us that they mounted to board! They looked great on the vintage easels that we rented from FOUND.
Party Favors- I chose to do s’more party favors. At first I saw a picture of s’mores used as party favors and I wanted to do it, but when my cousin found an adorable quote for the party favors, I knew I had to do them! They took my bridesmaids and I about 3 hours to assemble the week of the wedding. The s’more had a tag on them that said ‘Thanks S’more.’ I also had wood signs engraved with ‘Jason Loves Liberty S’more’ and ‘Liberty Loves Jason S’more.’ The quote was written on a antique chalkboard.
In-N-Out Truck- We had a lot of out-of-town guest at our wedding because my husband is from New Jersey. We wanted to give them the unique experience of an In-N-Out burger and we figured, what better way than to have an In-N-Out Truck come at the end of the night. After drinking and dancing, most guests are hungry again by the end of the night anyways!
What was the most meaningful part of your day?
Our first dance! My husband picked the song, and I was completely swept off my feet by it. I wasn’t expecting our first dance to be anything special, mainly because we never practiced or took lessons. A few days before the wedding, I brought it up to my fiancé (at the time) and Jason told me, ‘We are going to waddle.’ It ended up being my favorite part of the wedding day!
Did anything funny or out of the ordinary happen?
I had a dress malfunction after the mother-son dance. In order to distract the guests while my dress was being fixed, two of our friends from Georgia danced to, ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia.’ Obviously I missed it, but everyone said it was hilarious!
Tell us details of the events surrounding the wedding as well.
Our rehearsal dinner was Thursday night at Bourbon Street in Downtown Fullerton. We also had a beach party in Newport Beach on Friday for our out-of-town guests!
